The Kingdom of Morocco is committed to industrial development as one of the keys to the future of its economy. This commitment is already bearing fruit and is particularly significant in some of its regions.
This is the case of the Tangiers-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, which is registering substantial economic growth, in compliance with the strategic plan promoted by King Mohammed VI, which has already crystallised in a series of emblematic projects such as the Tangiers-Med industrial platform, inaugurated in 2009.
As Jalal Benhayoun, Director of the Regional Investment Centre of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Region, points out, “as a natural and strategic gateway between Europe, Africa, America and Asia, the region has been able to attract a large influx of investment in recent years, thanks to the huge advantages it offers in terms of infrastructure, including the Tangier-Med port complex and the first high-speed railway line in Africa”.
The region provides sustainable infrastructures in a business-friendly environment in various areas of economic activity. Among the most prominent projects is Tangier’s Mohammed VI Technology City, a new generation of industrial zones specifically dedicated to high-tech industries.
Currently, the region, the second largest industrial zone in the Kingdom of Morocco, has 18 operational industrial zones and areas of economic activity, covering an area of approximately 4,700 hectares. In addition, new zones of economic activity are planned to be launched, covering an additional 300 hectares and with an investment of 1 billion dirhams.
To disseminate business opportunities and attract companies interested in setting up in the region, the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Investment Centre has produced a guide, entitled “Overview of Economic and Industrial Zones in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region”.
This guide offers a complete overview of the industrial, logistical and economic land supply in the region, and provides all the essential information to access the opportunities offered to entrepreneurs.
Multiple economic sectors
As the guide describes, the region is home to companies belonging to various sectors, dedicated to productive activities (automotive, textile, aerospace, electronics, agri-food industry); tourism and leisure (hotels, tourist accommodation, marinas, equestrian clubs…); commercial activities (shopping centres, outlets, commercial activity zones); and essential services (universities, health centres and vocational training centres).
According to data from the Regional Investment Centre, the Tangiers-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region contributes 17% of the national industrial GDP and has become a global benchmark in the automotive industry, with the presence of numerous multinational brands such as Renault, making Morocco the main supplier of cars to Europe.
