Morocco is a “magnificent and unbeatable” offer for Spanish investors

Separated from Spain by only 14 kilometres, Morocco is presented as “the gateway to Africa” for Spanish businessmen and investors

Amal Boussouf, Director of the Spain-Tangier Chamber of Commerce, took stock of the new possibilities that have opened up in Morocco following the approval of the new Investment Charter. The director commented, for the readers of Atalayar, the functioning of the Chamber and all the support they provide to investors who decide to go to Morocco.

The XXII Edition IMEX-Madrid has been held, what were the objectives of the Spain-Tangier Chamber of Commerce in this edition of IMEX?

We came with our territorial offer and our offer of investment incentives to explain to entrepreneurs and the Spanish and international business network, because there are several nationalities, but especially to the Spanish business community, our business opportunities in the booming sectors in Morocco, the business niches and also the investment incentives offered by our region to Spanish entrepreneurs.

Your speech focused on the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, the territorial offer and the investment incentives. Why can a Spanish businessman or anyone else go to Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima to have a good business or a good investment?

Because it is an offer in two. The first offer is a magnificent and unbeatable production platform, taking into account production costs. That is fundamental. Then, it is a platform for marketing the products. We are at the heart of the world. Morocco has more than 50 free trade agreements. There is a geographical proximity, and it has an unbeatable geostrategic position that we have to take advantage of to market our products.

So, on the one hand, it offers lower-cost production and, on the other hand, it also offers unbeatable product marketing.

And all of this under very favourable conditions. The new Investment Charter is very favourable for investors. And then there is the connectivity between Tangiers-Tetouan-Al Hoceima.

Exactly. The geostrategic position is unbeatable. There are many sectors where you can do a lot of business and investments. There is a lot of sectorial offer. The main one is the automobile sector, since it is located in the north of Morocco, it is the leading export sector in the North African country, the agri-food sector, the textile and clothing sector… there is an important strategy in Morocco today, which is to industrialise the country.

And taking into account the experience and added value that Spanish companies have, and the added value that they can offer Morocco, and taking into account the territorial offer of various sectors that can be extrapolated to many others, this is a good time and a good moment for cooperation.

Why should someone who wants to invest in Morocco go to the Spain-Tangier Chamber of Commerce? What services does it offer?

To make it easier, that is their home. That is the home of entrepreneurs. We have the function of welcoming, advising and accompanying Spanish companies that want to invest or that want to market their products in Morocco, and also the function of accompanying them once they are located in Morocco. It is a post-investment offer, to accompany them in Morocco to give visibility to their activities, to carry out commercial prospecting for them and to create a network of contacts that can support them in their daily management of their company.

It is an essential tool

There are two Chambers of Commerce in Morocco, one in Tangier and the other in Casablanca. We are at the disposal of the companies to accompany them and to open up the market and establish themselves in them, what less that they can use us.

In addition, we can highlight the political stability, legal security, connectivity and people in the region of Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima.

The northern region stands out from other regions because of its historical memory, we have that “feeling” with Spanish businessmen, we have that affinity with Spanish culture and that facility, since we have also highlighted the added value of our trained and Spanish-speaking human capital, which, whether we like it or not, helps a lot. So, the cultural issue helps, it supports, given that we are 14 kilometres away from Europe. Because of our historical memory, Spanish culture has had an impact on us, and then this capacity in terms of cooperation and collaboration can be magnificent at the moment.
